Last June, Pietro Puddu, Laboratory Analysis Coordinator, Il Sentiero International Campus, participated as a speaker in the Coatings Course, organized by AIM (Italian Metallurgy Association) at the Politecnico di Milano.
The course, now in its fourth edition, is intended to offer basic knowledge about the technological production processes of different types of coatings, as well as insights into individual industrial sectors.

Divided into three modules: Thin Coatings, Thick Coatings, and Galvanic Coatings, the training course featured lecturers from academic backgrounds, researchers, and industry experts. It also concluded with a visit to laboratories equipped with specific instruments for the study of coatings.
The researcher’s talk, titled “Characterisation of Coatings: Adhesion, Wear, Hardness” was part of the second module, dedicated to thick coatings obtained by thermal spraying and plating/welding processes.
Specifically, Pietro Puddu illustrated advanced characterisation techniques applied in the laboratory, the standards used, and the technological areas involved.
“High-level courses like these are an opportunity to perfect one’s technical training and to establish interdisciplinary collaborations with technicians and experts from highly specialized fields” said Pietro Puddu at the end of his participation.
